Long Bow Archery Shoot
Have-a-go with an English longbow
Over this weekend we hope to have a few of our Tudors giving demonstrations with and instruction on Tudor Longbow Archery. This was the weapon made for ever famous when the English (and Welsh) archers won the day at the Battle of Agincourt. After this for some 200 hundred years practice at it was compulsory for all able-bodied men. Indeed, although little used, the bow was a better weapon than the gun until about 1800 but it required skill to use whereas any fool can shoot a gun - hence the latter's popularity. In the 19th C. interest in the bow revived, as a leisure activity.
There should be plenty of opportunity for visitors to learn about the Longbow and all that goes with it and to have-a-go at drawing such a bow.
The difference from the Re-Creations is simply that the Archers will be the only Tudors present and the day is presented as one for visitors to learn about the longbow.
For precisely what will be happening, call the Kentwell Estate Office in the week before this day.
