Friday 21 June 2019

Kentwell Hall is proud to be part of Suffolk Day, celebrating everything this wonderful County has to offer.

We are excited to open the House and Gardens from 2pm to 4pm, followed by afternoon tea in our tearoom, with an exclusive Q&A session with one of Kentwell's owners. So, why not take time out of your busy schedules and enjoy an afternoon at Kentwell, to celebrate Suffolk Day.

The House and Gardens will be open from 2-4pm for you to explore, followed by afternoon tea and Q&A.

Kentwell holds a lot of special events throughout the season, but many visitors find it a delight to visit when there is nothing extra going on. They can then fully enjoy Kentwell's unrivalled romantic air and tranquillity.

"A little Great House of great beauty - paradise on Earth" - Lucy Norton, author, b 1900 at Kentwell.

Kentwell is one of England's finest Tudor Houses, developed in stages between about 1500 and 1540 to form a typical Elizabethan E-plan. The exterior is little altered. Less a stately house, more a family home.

Our Gardens are a pleasure to walk round at any time. The Gardens are tranquil and romantic to walk round. They are fun to explore, from the lovely Walled Garden with potager and large herb garden, to surprises such as the Courtyard Maze, the Carved Tree and the Pied Piper Topiary. Try the Human Sundial and find your way round the Yew Castle.

In June, the blue Nepeta is in flower in the walled garden, awaiting the arrival of the accompanying roses. This month, we will make a start the topiary cutting and shaping - as you can imagine, maintenance of Kentwell's hedges and topiary takes a lot of time!

From every location in the Gardens, the House provides a stunning backdrop; just as the Gardens provide the perfect setting for the House. For the more adventurous there are walks into adjoining woods.
