The Hall at War

Sat 3 and Sun 4 August, 11am to 5pm

WWI, Tudors and WWII combine to illustrate the impact of war on the inhabitants of Kentwell. This is one of our smaller events, with sixty of our volunteers taking part across the three eras portrayed. The House, Gardens and Farm are fully open during this event and the tea room will be open.

Focused upon domestic country house life in 1918, at the start of the fourth year of the Great War.

The 'Family' in the Hall will be entertaining their guests, tended to by their staff. The cooks will be busy in the kitchen, and the other staff in the House. The local representative of the nursing VAD will be looking to recruit volunteers and a detachment of the Army Service Corps have arrived and set up their stores. If weather permits, there may even be a game or two of lawn bowls, or some cricket after luncheon.

All is set in the year 1918 - see how the Hall and the village responded to the dramatic changes brought by The Great War.

Tudor Longbow Archery Challenge

At the Butts, you will find our Tudor archers demonstrating and explaining longbow archery and associated crafts at the Butts. They will be shooting against each other in various competitions across the weekend.

WWII and Home Front

Find out about life in WWII, on the home front and in the services.

Please do not think that Kentwell is just a fair weather visit - we carry on whatever the weather. There will be indoor activities and some of our outdoor activities can be moved inside if the weather fails us.
