Schools’ Tudor Days (Michaelmas)

22nd & 23rd September 2024

Step back in time almost 500 years to experience everyday life in Tudor Suffolk.

See, hear, touch and smell 16th Century England brought to life by over 250 of Kentwell’s skilled Living Historians, working and playing throughout the buildings and grounds of the Kentwell manor.

With the crafts, cooking, food, music and dancing - as well as the gossip that accompanies the life of a small village - you will travel back in time and spend a whole day lost in Tudor England.

Your students will experience 16th century life and meet the people of a Tudor manor in Suffolk. See how the people live, how they dress, what they eat, their skills, their tools their families. Talk to them about their lives, their concerns and find out what they do for fun.

Help knead the bread and churn the butter, even learn a dance or two - your day at Kentwell will be an amazing three hours immersed in the past.

Kentwell’s re-enactors are not actors, they are expert Living Historians, many with decades of experience and expertise. A Tudor schools visit provides unrivalled enrichment for the study of everyday life, with many hands-on activities: suitable for KS2, KS3 and GCSE students.

"There is nothing that I could have done in the classroom that could have brought history to life like this visit."

Important Information

  • Our Michaelmas Schools Only Days fall on Monday 22nd & Tuesday 23rd September 2025.

  • We ask that schools arrive around 30 minutes prior to their booked entry time, to allow for a snack and toilet break prior to entry.

  • There are entry time slots every ten minutes from 9:20am until 14:00pm. E.g. 9:00am, 9:10am, 9:20am etc. Please note, each entry time slot has a max capacity of around 30 pupils. Subsequently, schools wishing to book in for upwards of 30 pupils will need to be booked in across two time slots.

  • You book for between 15 and 30 pupils (larger numbers need additional time slots) to enter as a group at a set time (to be strictly adhered to).

  • The group stays within the Re-Creation without a break (so as not to disturb the notion of having stepped back in time) for about 3 to 3.5 hours.

  • When booking coaches, schools should allow a further 30 minutes after exiting the Re-Creation (for snacks & WC etc).

  • We strongly recommend that primary aged children should come in costume. Kentwell provides easy to follow notes for making or adapting or (at worst) cheating these.

  • Kentwell provides these for those who book.

  • Payable upon returning the Confirmation of Booking Form.

  • Payable by return to Kentwell’s issued invoice about a fortnight before booked entry.

  • Please ether call, email events@kentwell.co.uk, or fill out the form below and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • One supervising adult (free) for every ten or part ten children.
